Her Story
Janice strives to become a themed entertainment architect who designs unique and captivating experiences that remind guests that a valuable life is also one to be enjoyed and filled with pleasurable memories.
She had overcome near death experiences right at birth. She was born with two health defects: omphalocele and tetralogy of fallot. Though her parents were from Korea, and she only had about 5% of survival, her parents didn’t give up finding the best hospital care for her. Fortunately, thanks to the preserving doctors, nurses, and family, after tiring procedures, she miraculously survived. At a young age, she got to experience the life which she almost lost too soon.
She aims to promote to others that life is so precious, full of struggles and adversaries but even more experiences, opportunities, and hope. As people grow older, many tend to dedicate their lives to working hard, even in jobs that they may not enjoy. It is not easy to grab an opportunity to work happily but still work diligently to aim for eventual comfort, all the while forgetting or neglecting to value other aspects of their lives.
Janice has always been inspired by experiential storytelling of themed entertainment architecture. She creates designs that tell a story that guests can feel a part of as they interact with the space. In 2014 her value of life was emphasized by her family’s nonprofit organization which supports students in Malawi, Africa, who are in need of support in their lives and education. Though the students had little, they showed such love for living and appreciation for what they have in life. This encouraged her to faithfully pursue her dream to be the architect of designs that would inspire any other to appreciate their own lives as well. During her architectural education in University of Southern California and internship in Warner Brothers Entertainment as an Architectural Office assistant, she closely learned from those who are already far in the themed entertainment field and from her own moments spent in various themed entertainment architecture.
She aspires to work for themed entertainment industries, to continue to learn to develop and create designs that would bring enjoyment and delightful experiences for people all around.
